Inspired by animals
In this group exhibition work is shown by artists that use animals as a mean to express their thoughts.
Xandra Bremers’ work refers to the fragility of life and the decay that results when organic material dies. She shows dancing rabbits, in which one of them tries to lift a more broken one to a higher level. Also the concept of trophies is a source of inspiration. Deers are placed under a glass cover or put up on the wall, referring to the urge of mankind to show things they kill on display.
Simsa Cho shows animals integrated in the concept of his shoes and cages in which a lonely bird tries to sing. His ideoma is constructed out of his Japanese roots. In his series “Shoerealism” animals like peacocks, snakes, and moles support the shoe, which are his signature work.
Geraldine Duriaux works in the French tradition of “Animaliers”. She is fascinated by cats: “The pet cat is a paradoxically mysterious animal. If man projects his attitudes on it, how can one watch a cat washing itself without be accused of voyeurism? Merging the suppleness of the feline, freed of second thoughts, with an anthropomorphic attitude, it shows intimicy on itself as an ethereal and dynamic process: Intimate/ Extimate »
Anne-Lise Riond-Sibony’ s theme is the garden of Eden and the loss of this ideal place due to the original sin of Adam and Eve. The snake represent the evil that is causing so much suffering and grief. She constructs “still lives” in which the snake is incorporated into to work and shows the way to destruction.
The exhibition runs from 5/11/2016 until 5/02/2017 and is open on sathurday and Sunday from 14:00-16:00 and after appointment (++32(0)494-285894)
