A vase is a vase is a vase
This exhibition shows pieces of artists that work with a container form. They all use the basic structure of the vase and by cutting, sculpting, or adding they transform it into objects with their own signature.
The basis of the work of Wouter Dam is the pot which he cuts into a 3-dimensional form. He gives the forms a different shape and color to construct self-standing objects or wall pieces.
Esther Stasse transforms her vases into architectural works in the dark brownish color, she made her own. The pieces have a strong form that, while referring to containers, stand as structures into the space.
Gertjan van der Stelt starts with a basic form and by combining them obtains 3-dimensional objects that fills the space around openings in the work. They have a different surface or interior that makes them interesting. His latest work is based on the Bancusi twist, an unending sculpture. He makes this basic form his own by adding structure and color.
Reinhilde Van Grieken shows 2 series inspired by the misuse of children by the Catholic church. “Laat de kinderen tot mij komen” shows pieces that are decorated with images of clergy and texts referring to the misuse. “De haan kraaide voor de zesde keer” shows the suffering of Christ by what is being done in his name.
Wietske van Leeuwen makes structures that refer to the golden age of the Netherlands, in which cabinets of shells, exotic vegetables and flowers were prestige objects for the very rich. She constructs with basic forms containers that have a sometimes bright, sometimes subtle color scheme.
The exhibition runs from 16/04/2016 until 10/07/2016 and is open on Saturday and Sunday from 14:00-16:00 hours or after appointment (++32(0)494-285894)
