Simsa Choi: Jingdezhen dremas
Simsa Cho is the pseudonym of Shinji Kasema (°20.12.1962; Chiba, Japan). He studied between 1982 until 1986 at the “Tama Art University”, Tokyo, Japan and from 1986 until 1989 at the “Gerrit Rietveld Academie”, Amsterdam, The Nederlands. Since then, he works as an artist using different materials, mainly glass.
His work reflects his Japanese roots referring to Japanese Mythology. Also from the start of his artist carreer, he created the series “Shoe Realism” based on the concept of a shoe.
In this solo exhibition, he shows art pieces made in Jingdezhen, China: Jingdezhen dream. In this work, he uses glass with ceramics and combines different objects into a totem. The color combinations and the different forms of the individual components of the totems make them into intriguing pieces.
